"Suspended EV", the car is not accepting power

What it means

The charger is fine and is offering power. The car is refusing it.

That is the whole meaning of the status, and it is genuinely useful, because it tells you the problem is at the car end and saves you looking for another charger.

Try these

If it is a Tesla: press Start on the car's screen. Teslas frequently need the session confirmed from inside the car.

Any other car: close all the doors and lock the car, then wait a few seconds. Many cars will not begin an AC session while they think somebody is getting in and out.

Check the car's own charging settings:

• Is there a scheduled charging time set? A car told to charge at 02:00 will sit there refusing power until then. This catches a lot of people.
• Is there a charge limit set, at 80% or 90%? If the battery is already above it, the car has nothing to do. See Charging stops around 90%.

Is the battery simply full? Then Suspended EV is the correct and expected end of a session.

Reseat the cable

If none of the above applies, take the cable out at both ends and put it back firmly, then start again.

When to stop trying

If the car refuses power at more than one charger, it is worth checking with the car rather than with us. If it charges elsewhere and only ever refuses at one particular station, tell us which one and we will look at the EV Charging Point.
